Where does morality come from ? |
Who makes the rules ? |
What does religion have to do with this ? |
What is right or wrong ? |
Suppose I disagree ? |
Are there alternative ways to think about these things ?
If you would like to get serious about such questions ... really serious ...
then read on ... seriously ...
You don't have to be religious to be ethical. But you do have to believe (in) something.
If you believe that the only thing that matters in life is your own, individual well-being,
then you will live out an individualistic ethic that demonstrates little concern for others.
If you find yourself concerned about the welfare of others, then obviously you believe
that other persons are 'worth' looking after, that they have a justified claim to respect.
Morality is not just about rules and behavior. It's not just about what is right or wrong.
It's about who you are and how you live. If you wish to take a serious look at that,
then have a look around this website.
The About
page explains why this website exists and what its author hopes to accomplish ...
... it also contains the (preliminary) answers to the above questions.
The Home
page begins the journey of investigating how ethics works and what it might offer.
